Egypt's intelligence chief headed to Israel

Omar Suleiman to visit Israel this week in attempt to renew stalemated peace talks
Ali Waked|
Egypt's intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, is set to arrive in Israel this week to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres, Ynet learned Monday.
The visit is aimed at renewing peace talks with the Palestinians, in light of the recent stalemate over Israel's refusal to renew the freeze in West Bank settlement construction.
Suleiman visited Ramallah last week along with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul-Gheit. The two discussed with Palestinian leaders the renewal of dialogue between the Palestinian factions.
Palestinian sources told Ynet that Egypt is supporting in principle the Ramallah government's view, by which settlement-building will render negotiations extremely difficult, but said they would try to find a solution.
