US Republican leader Boehner stresses spending cuts

US House of Representatives Republican leader John Boehner on Wednesday put reducing the federal government's spending at the top of Congress' agenda next year.

"It's pretty clear the American people want us to do something about cutting spending here in Washington and helping to create an environment where we'll get jobs back," Boehner told reporters.

Republicans will hold a majority in next year's House and Boehner is expected to hold the top job of Speaker. (Reuters)
