Interior Minister Eli Yishai said that the cuts in children's allowances were a major factor in the growing rate of poor working populations indicated in the National Insurance Institute report issued Monday.
"We are in favor of expanding the work force and are convinced that integration in employment will assist the poverty state," a statement on behalf of Yishai noted. "But we must also increase children's allowances in order to substantially reduce the rate of poverty and see to it there are no starving children," it was noted. (Kobi Nahshoni)
