Egypt's national flags made in Israel?

Al-Masry al-Youm newspaper reports Cairo imports its national flags from Jewish state, but country's industry and trade minister insists report based solely on rumors

Egyptian newspaper al-Masry al-Youm reported Thursday that according to official documents, Egypt imports its national flags from Israel. Egyptian Industry and Trade Minister Rashid Mohammed Rashid said the report was based solely on rumors.

"A certain businessman imported the flags in a container from the border in Taba or the Rafah checkpoint to Egypt," the newspaper stated.

Rashid's deputy, Sayyed Abul Kumsan, said in response to the report that "the Egyptian law does not forbid importing items from Israel. The customs authority did not receive any new guidelines regarding the import of Egyptian flags."

Parliament member Abbas Abd al-Aziz blamed Egyptian authorities last July of allowing Israel to manufacture its flags. "I am 100% sure and I have the documents to prove it," he said. The Egyptian government, however, continues to deny the claims.

Recently, it was discovered that Israeli flags and national emblems are manufactures in china and Turkey. Last week, the Knesset passed in preliminary reading an amendment requiring that flags be manufactured locally.
