New US claims for jobless benefits rose slightly last week, but the underlying trend remained tilted toward improvement with a moving average hitting a fresh two-year low.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits climbed 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 439,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 440,000 from the previously reported 435,000. (Reuters)
