Pope Pius XII was "one of the great righteous men who saved more Jews than anyone," said Pope Benedict XVI in a book of interviews titled "Light of the World", released Tuesday. "He did everything he could to save people."
"Naturally, we can always ask: 'Why did he not protest more forcefully?' I think he saw what the consequences might have been a public outcry," the pontiff wrote. (AFP)
