J'lem: Senior citizens protest, seek OECD intervention
None
Dozens of senior citizens protested in front of the Prime Minister's Office and called on the OECD Secretary General Angel Gurría, who was attending an Israeli cabinet meeting, to pressure senior Israeli officials into improving the situation of senior citizens in Israel.
Senior Citizens Association Chairman Gideon Ben-Israel told the protestors that the old age pensions in Israel were a third of what senior citizens in most OECD states receive. A quarter of Israel's senior citizens are defined as poor compared with 13% in other OECD states, added Ben-Israel. (Yael Branovsky)
