Study: Only 25% of Arab women's violence complaints reach courts

None

Some 2,000 Arab women filed police complaints regarding family violence last year but only 50% of them were turned over to prosecutors' offices, a study conducted by the Women Lawyers for Social Justice foundation suggests.

The data indicate that half of the cases were closed due to lack of evidence and only 1% of the complaints were found to be baseless. Out of 2,040 cases opened in 2009 for violence towards Arab women only 580 (roughly 25%) reached the courtroom. (Yael Branovsky)
