Syrian official: US foiling attempts to prevent Lebanon crisis

None

A senior Syrian source said that Washington has been thwarting Damascus' attempts to prevent anticipated turmoil in Lebanon, following the indictments set be issued by the international tribunal investigating the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

According to the report, Syria and Saudi Arabia agreed in principle over the Lebanese political camps they support, but Riyadh has yet to give its final approval on the matter. In an interview with Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar, the Syrian source claimed US Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman "personally oversees sabotaging the two states' efforts to reach an agreement."
