Jordan king urges accelerated reforms

Jordan's king has inaugurated a new parliament with a call for accelerating political reforms stagnated amid fears of the rising influence of Muslim militants.
Abdullah II says that economic reforms will remain his top priority as Jordan faces "enormous" economic challenges, partly caused by the global recession. On political reforms, he told the newly elected 120-seat parliament Sunday that he sought wider public participation in the decision making, a stronger role for the media, women, youth and political parties.
