Bibi convenes emergency session over Sara reports

Prime minister convenes advisors to discuss PR crisis following reports about his wife's interference in his work; meanwhile, tensions vis-à-vis Livni reach new heights, chances of unity government 'almost non-existent,' Kadima source says

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his advisors for an emergency session Wednesday evening in order to discuss the public relations crisis in the wake of reports on his wife's interference at the PM's Office.

Netanyahu himself did not take part in the special session.

In recent days, media outlets in Israel published reports on Sara Netanyahu's involvement in affairs pertaining to the Prime Minister's Office. On Tuesday, Ynet reported that at least two senior officials at the office are mulling their future as result of Ms. Netanyahu's constant interference in Israel's nerve center.

"Sara is taking the bureau apart," a source familiar with the tense situation told Ynet. "She's driving everyone crazy."

However, a senior Likud official closely associated with the prime minister had a different take on the situation.

"Netanyahu doesn't know how to choose the people around him; he has a major problem," the source said. "The conduct at his office is very problematic, and he knows it. This staff should not be replaced, but rather, kicked out. We have people there who are simply unsuitable for their positions. They don't know how to conduct themselves and cause damage."

Tensions with Livni

Earlier Wednesday, tensions between Netanyahu and Opposition Chairwoman Tzipi Livni also reached new heights. The two traded mutual insults at the Knesset, with Livni avoiding a handshake after the prime minister finished speaking and left the podium.

Livni slammed Netanyahu openly for being "weak and not keeping his promises," calling for early elections for the first time since the previous general elections. The comment was interpreted by political sources as terminating any possibility of establishing a national unity government.

Sources close to Livni confirmed Wednesday evening that the chances of Kadima joining the government have become "very low, and almost non-existent."

"Only if something exceptional happens, or should peace break out, there's a chance for a unity government. In any other case, we're out," one source said.
