Taba border crossing to get new terminal
Airports Authority to invest some NIS 45 million in construction of a new terminal on Israel-Egypt border, aimed at improving quality of service to 3 million passengers a year
The Israel Airports Authority will invest some NIS 45 million (about $12 million) in the construction of a new passenger terminal at the Taba border crossing.
The new terminal will have three floors in order to sufficiently accommodate the traffic of vehicles crossing into Sinai and back. The Moshe Tzur architects' office has won a bid to plan the terminal.
The new passengers terminal's design will help preserve the beach and reef in the area. The building will include a ground floor for vehicles, passenger halls, and offices.
The new terminal will handle some 3 million passengers a year. The passenger halls will measure more than 4,000 square meters (43,000 square feet) in size.
According to Ovadia Eli, chairman of the Israel Airports Authority, the IAA is "implementing its defined goal to improve the quality of service for passengers passing through Ben-Gurion Airport and the border terminals."
