Investigators: Fire's proportions couldn't have been prevented

Haifa University fire experts claimed that "nothing could have prevented the Carmel fire from reaching such huge proportions." According to the investigators, the reason for the rapid expansion of the fire was a combination of mature vegetation, draught, strong winds and unique topographic surface.

University findings indicate that more than 500 fires erupted in the Carmel Mountain range since 1978, which burned down a total of some 30,000 dunams (about 7,400 acres). According to estimates, more than 50,000 dunams (about 12,300 acres) burned down over the last four days. (Ahiya Raved)
