Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that sending firefighter teams to help Israel gain control of the Carmel fire is not a sign of improvement in the country's relations with Israel. Erdogan said that "a day will come when we shall turn the page but first Israel must apologize for the Gaza-bound flotilla events and compensate the victims."
The Turkish prime minister claimed that a feeling of Islamic and humanitarian duty led him to provide Israel with aid: "When a hand is reached out to us – we do not ignore it," he said. (AFP)
