WikiLeaks: Qatar used al-Jazeera as bargaining chip
Qatar used al-Jazeera as a diplomatic bargaining chip, US elements claimed in a cable leaked by the WikiLeaks website.
Britain's Guardian newspaper reported that in a cable sent in November 2009, US representatives in Doha contradicted the Qatari claim that Al Jazeera was an independent network. The Americans claimed that the network slanted the nature of reports in order to improve relations with many countries including Saudi Arabia and the United Stated. (Ynet)
