Abbas to press for recognition if talks with Israel fail

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says his government will push for international recognition of the Palestinian state if deadlocked talks with Israel fail.

Abbas said the Palestinians would not resume peace negotiations unless Israel freezes all construction in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. He was addressing reporters Monday with Turkey's Abdullah Gul. (AP)
