Man charged with attempting to stab police officer in Tayibe

Muhammad Abu Ali, a 20-year-old man from the Arab town of Qalansawe, was charged with attempting to cause injury and illegal wielding of a knife, after he arrived at a police station at Tayibe with the purpose of stabbing a police officer.

The charges were pressed at the The Magistrate's Court in Kfar Saba. The prosecution claims Abu Ali admitted during questioning that he intended to stab the officer, but then changed his mind. He said that he wanted to go to jail because he doesn't get along with his parents. Abu Ali previously served time in prison for committing security violations. (Raanan Ben-Zur)
