Sunni supreme authority al-Qaradawi: Qatar 2022 is slap in US face

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Qatar-based head of the World Council of Muslims Clerics who is considered a supreme authority in the Sunni world, said that the fact that FIFA chose Qatar over the US to host the soccer World Cup in 2022 is a slap in the face of the US. "The reaction of Obama, who criticized the choice, is the best proof of that," he said.

Al-Qaradawi added that even though he is not interested in soccer, when he heard that Qatar was competing against the US, he prayed to Allah for Qatar to win. "It's the first time that Qatar wins over the US," he said. (Roee Nahmias)
