Senior official: Turkish aid in fire opens possibility for improved relations

A senior Israeli official said Tuesday that there is an opportunity to rehabilitate relations with Turkey in light of Turkey's decision to send two fire extinguishing planes to Israel to help with the recent Carmel fire disaster.
"A possibility for improved relations between the two countries has become obtainable. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sees improving relations with turkey as an important goal and more than anything, is determined that IDF officers won't be subject to prosecution and arrests abroad. At this stage both sides are looking for a formula for compromise which will make it clear that the State of Israel didn't act maliciously. Contacts between the two sides will continue over the next few days in a bid to reach an agreed upon solution", the source noted. (Roni Sofer)
