US and S.Korea agree to more joint military drills

The US and South Korean militaries said on Wednesday they would hold more joint exercises off the tense peninsula amid heightened tensions following North Korea's deadly attack on a South Korean island last month.

The two "agreed to continue combined exercises designed to effectively deter North Korean aggression and strengthen the joint capabilities to respond," the militaries of the two countries said in a joint statement. Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, arrived in Seoul for a two-day trip that will also take him to Japan. (Reuters)
