Arab peace committee calls off Mideast talks

None

Arab states called off Mideast talks between Palestinians and Israelis on Wednesday, saying negotiations could not resume until the United States offers a serious proposal to advance the peace process.

"The committee decided not to resume negotiations until a serious proposal is made allowing for an end to Arab-Israeli conflict according to the references of the peace process," Arab League chief Amr Moussa told reporters. On Monday the US admitted it has failed to bring about an Israeli settlement freeze, indicating direct talks had ended and proximity talks, which began in May, had resumed. (Reuters)
