Braverman uncertain of Mitzna's ability to lead Labor

Minister says former Labor chief's attempts to 'shop around' raise questions about his 'desire' to head party again

Addressing the possibility of Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amram Mitzna's return to political life, Minister Avishay Braverman said he was uncertain of the former Labor's chief's ability to lead the party again.
"Mitzna is a worthy man, but his attempts to 'shop around' in Meretz and other leftist factions raise questions regarding his desire and ability to head a party that will capture the center of the political map," he during a cultural forum in Ramat Gan Saturday.
"The party mustn't veer too far to the left, because that would cement Kadima as the only party that appeals to centrists, who constitute the majority of the Israeli public."
Mitzna, who recently stepped down as council head of Yeruham after five years on the job, met on Thursday with Meretz chairman Chaim Oron. The two discussed, among other things, the possibility of forming a new party.
