Defense budget: Committee reaches compromise

The Knesset's Finance Committee is convening Wednesday to approve the State Budget for 2011-2012 after the joint committee for the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and the Finance Committee approved the defense budget.
The defense budget for 2011 will be NIS 49 billion ($13.63 billion) and the 2012 budget will be set at NIS 50 billion ($13.9 billion). The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee MK Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) refused to approve the additional sum of NIS 6 billion ( $1.67 billion) requested by Defense Minister Ehud Barak for his ministry's budget.
