Following fires on train carriages in the past, Ynet has learned, Israel Railways contacted various suppliers of fire-detection systems seven years ago. In addition, drivers and other employees requested that the management investigate the issue and move it forward quickly.
However, it was finally decided not to continue with the process, and till today no firefighting systems have been installed in the carriages. "Me and other drivers warned of this repeatedly, during the course of many years, but nobody did anything about it," a train driver said. (Hillel Posek)
