Netanyahu: Fire extinguishing squadron operational next summer
At a Knesset Foreign Affairs and defense Committee meeting Monday Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu estimated that the operational training of the fire extinguishing squadron would be complete by next summer. It is likely that for the first stages, until Israeli pilots are trained, planes would be leased and pilots borrowed from Canada.
The squadron, which will come under UDF jurisdiction, will be used to deal not only with forest and major fires but also for extinguishing fires that break out due to enemy missile fire in war time. (Roni Sofer)
