Hamas: Strip residents may bear personal arms
Hamas' police in the Gaza strip have announced Wednesday that residents will be allowed to bear arms for the first time since the organization came to power. A police spokesman stated that permits will be given out to persons who need to defend themselves such as gold and money traders and large manufactory owners.
The permit will allow its bearer to own any kind of gun without a silencer and in certain cases will even allow the owner to carry an automatic weapon such as the M-16 or Kalashnikov, at the police's discretion. (AFP)
