IDF personnel chief supports haredi enlistment reform
IDF Personnel Directorate head Major-General Avi Zamir expressed support for the haredi military enlistment reform. "An inequality exists and we believe that a change is possible," he said during a press conference that followed the government meeting. He noted that since 1996 the number of those who refuse to serve in the IDF for religious reasons has risen by 300%.
Zamir stated that the haredi public supports the plan as well. "The rabbis are encouraging the 'fence sitter' youth to join," he said. (Ronen Medzini)
