David and Goliath tale retold in new film

Director Scott Derrickson signs on to direct modern retelling of biblical story. Movie climaxes in battle between shepherd, giant sent to destroy him

The Biblical tale of David and Goliath will soon receive a jolt of adrenaline. Scott Derrickson , best known for writing and directing "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" in 2005 has signed on to direct "Goliath", a modern retelling of the story al la "The Bourne Identity" and "300".

 

The film commences when the Philistine giant Goliath, is sent to kill David, future king of the Israelites. The young shepherd David is thrust into an epic chase and adventure fighting for his own life, the lives of his loved ones and eventually the lives of his people.

 

The story climaxes in a battle of literal Biblical proportions between the shepherd and the giant sent to destroy him, states The Hollywood Reporter.

 

Derrickson is currently directing a sci-fi family film, "The Substitute," for Columbia Pictures and Sam Raimi’s production company, Ghost House.

 

Goliath was written by first time screenwriters John D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Temple Hill Entertainment will be the production company producing the period action movie. Temple Hill has been responsible for the "Twilight Saga" movies.

 

All parties involved have not yet divulged when filming on "Goliath" will commence, nor where the epic will be shot.
