Chief of staff: Defense minister shouldn't suggest candidates for Generals

The Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi criticized the involvement of the defense minister in the selection process of IDF Generals. "It isn't right that a civilian authority suggest candidates for a military position," said Askenazi and suggested that a military commander present the candidates and the defense minister be given the opportunity to reject them or request alternatives."

At a Knesset meeting Ashkenazi stated that the IDF was operating to implement the State Comptroller's report on the appointment of senior officers in the IDF. Ashkenzi noted that "without taking care of the officers from entry level, we will fail to achieve a high standard of command. (Roni Sofer)
