US may drop Sudan from terrorism list by July

The US State Department says it could remove Sudan from its list of states that sponsor terrorism as early as July, if the results of this week's referendum on creating an independent Southern Sudan are accepted by the country's north.

State Department official Princeton Lyman said Tuesday that if voting is deemed legitimate by international observer groups and the results are accepted, then the US would immediately begin the process of removing Sudan from the terrorism list. (AP)
