Report: Mabhouh's successor arrested in UAE

Fatah-affiliated website says man in charge of laundering money transferred to Hamas detained

Sources in the United Arab Emirates said local authorities have detained Abd al-Aziz al-Khalidi, who manages Hamas' funds in Gaza, a website affiliated with Fatah reported Thursday evening.

The report's credibility is unclear.

According to the report, al-Khalidi is responsible for laundering money that is transferred to Hamas from international Islamic movements, Iran and the Islamist group's political bureau in Damascus.

The website said the person previously in charge of the operation was Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, who was assassinated in Dubai about a year ago.

The report said al-Khalidi also supervises over the purchase and sale of land in Gaza. He has two bodyguards, and opened a real estate agency in Gaza's Remal neighborhood, according to the report.

The website said al-Khalidi was arrested during the week on suspicion of laundering money linked to Hamas or investing illegal funds in UAE territory.
