Shas' spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, has written a halachic ruling stating that all conversions performed in the Israel Defense Forces in recent years are legitimate.
Rabbi Yosef wrote the ruling although a committee appointed by Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar told the Shas leader that it cannot approve the conversions. (Kobi Nahshoni)
