US cable claims Swiss linked Iran, Gitmo to UBS
Switzerland allegedly tried to end a US tax evasion case against its largest bank by emphasizing Swiss cooperation with the United States on two unrelated issues: sanctions against Iran and Guantanamo detainees, according to a leaked US diplomatic cable published Thursday.
The classified cable of July 1, 2009, obtained by WikiLeaks, cites a senior US diplomat in Bern as saying the Swiss government would stop Swedish-owned engineering company Colenco's involvement with an Iranian research reactor. (AP)
