Hamas: PA tried to secure West Bank respite deal

The Palestinian Authority has asked Hamas to negotiate a respite agreement in the West Bank with Israel in exchange for ceasing arrests performed by its security forces, a Hamas source said.

According to the source, Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad was slated to broker the talks. He added that the talks failed over Hamas's refusal to accept the PA's terms. (Elior Levy)
