Clinton urges Egypt, protesters to refrain from violence

Egypt should allow peaceful protests, restrain its security forces and reverse steps it took to cut off communications, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday as protests raged in several of the key US ally's cities.

"We are deeply concerned about the use of violence by Egyptian police and security forces against protestors. We call on the Egyptian government to do everything in its power to restrain security forces," Clinton said. "At the same time, protesters should also refrain from violence and express themselves peacefully." (Reuters)
