Police to boost security around Egyptian Embassy in TA

Egyptian ambassador to Israel, Tel Aviv district police chief decide to step up security measures around embassy compound following recent unrest. Leftist plan to hold solidarity rally with Egyptian protesters in front of building on Tuesday

Taking no chances – Tel Aviv district Police Commander Major-General Shahar Ayalon met Tuesday with Egyptian Ambassador to Israel Yasser Rida following recent developments in his country.

 

During their meeting, the two agreed to increase security measures around the embassy compound in order to ensure the safety of the employees.

 

On Saturday evening, a group of leftists protested in front of the embassy building on Tel Aviv's Bazel Street. On Tuesday, leftist are planning to hold a solidarity rally with Egyptian protesters at the same location.

 

Following growing unrest in Egypt, dependents of Israeli envoys in the country were evacuated back to Israel.

 

On Saturday night a special flight landed at Ben-Gurion Airport, carrying the diplomats' family members as well as some 40 Israeli citizens who were privately staying in Cairo and requested to return to Israel.

 

The Counter Terrorism Bureau issued a travel warning to Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula, recommending Israelis already present in the country to "carefully monitor developments, follow the local government's instructions and avoid gatherings in public places."
