Peres on Egypt: Democracy must be real

President Shimon Peres warned against the rise of an undemocratic regime in Egypt.

Speaking during a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Peres said, "We must ensure that democracy is real. The world must learn from what happened in Gaza. Democracy starts with elections but doesn't end with them. Democracy is a civilization, and if you choose the wrong side – you lead to its end." (Ronen Medzini)
