Sources close to PM: Barak pressed him to support Galant appointment

Sources close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Ynet that Defense Minister Ehud Barak pressured him to support the appointment of Major General Yoav Galant for IDF chief of staff despite Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein's recommendation against it.

The sources addressed the decision to appoint Major General Yair Naveh for temporary IDF chief, saying that "the extension of Major General Ashkenazi's term as chief of staff, which appears as the natural option, is unlikely because of the lack of cooperation between the chief of staff's office and the Ministry of Defense."
