Shin Bet director: Media hindered negotiations of Shalit's release

Shin Bet Director Yuval Diskin said that the Israeli media hurt the efforts to release captive IDF soldier Gilad Shalit during the 2009 negotiations with Hamas. Diskin, who spoke during an Israeli Journalists Association event in Tel Aviv, claimed that while he cannot definitively say that the deal to release Shalit would have close had the media kept quiet, "but it certainly did not help our case."

Diskin also addressed the WikiLeaks document release, saying that "the use of new technological tools affects us as well, and creates new challenges." (Boaz Fyler)
