General Naveh criticized by HCJ over targeted killings comment

Despite the high Court of Justice decision to reject the appeal to cancel the appointment of General Yair Naveh to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff, the judges Edna Arbel, Elyakim Rubinstein and Salim Joubran criticized the derogatoriness demonstrated by Naveh towards the court regarding targeted killings. Naveh was quoted in an interview as saying: "Who cares about the High Court's directives. I don't know when the directives came out and when they didn't."

Judge Arbel wrote: "A senior officer is expected to be cautious about such matters, especially if they concern one of the most sensitive issues regarding IDF activity and dilemmas concerning the most basic values. The way he expressed himself is enough to give the public a wrong and harsh message regarding the IDF's commitment to court rulings, especially to IDF soldiers." (Aviad Glickman)
