Plane crashes in northern Iraq, killing 7
A small commercial plane crashed Friday while taking off from a regional airport in northern Iraq, killing seven on board, officials said. The plane caught fire as it was flying out of the Sulaimaniyah airport around 5 p.m. in a heavy snowstorm. Firefighters battled the flames for more than two hours before extinguishing the blaze, officials said.
At least three of the dead were crew members, said two senior airport officials and a policeman who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information. (AP)
