Syrian authorities arrested a 75-year old Islamist on Thursday who called for peaceful protests in the wake of Egyptian demonstrations, demanding an end to Baath Party rule, rights activists said.
Security agents took Ghassan al-Najar from his house in Syria's second city Aleppo in the middle in the night, they said. Najar spent years as a political prisoner in the 1980s for belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood. (Reuters)
