The UN-backed Lebanon tribunal opened its first session on Monday trying to settle legal points before it can issue arrest warrants in the assassination of former premier Rafik al-Hariri.
The hearing took place against the backdrop of a political crisis in Lebanon, where the militant Shiite Hezbollah movement and its allies toppled the government of Hariri's son, Saad al-Hariri, over his refusal to cut links with the tribunal. (Reuters)
