Egypt army takes control, sign Mubarak on way out

President Hosni Mubarak has travelled to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh with his army chief of staff, Al Arabiya television said on Thursday, citing reports. It gave no more details and there was no immediate confirmation. 

Meanwhile Egypt's military announced on national television that it stepped in to "safeguard the country" and assured protesters that President Hosni Mubarak will meet their demands in the strongest indication yet that the longtime leader has lost power. In Washington, the CIA chief said there was a "strong likelihood" Mubarak will step down Thursday. (News Agencies)
