Cabinet approves Gantz appointment as 20th IDF chief

The cabinet has unanimously approved the appointment of Major-General Benny Gantz as the Israel Defense Forces' 20th chief of staff. Gantz will replace Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi.

 

Gantz, 52, who married with four children, joined the Paratroopers Brigade in 1977. He served as deputy chief of staff, the military attaché in the United States, commander of the Ground Forces and Northern Command chief. (Attila Somfalvi)
