Video: Officer threatens to shoot settler
During raid on yeshiva in Yitzhar last month, Border Guard officer tells settlement spokesman 'this bullet is for your forehead'
VIDEO - Tensions between Israeli security forces and Jewish settlers boiled over last month when an officer threatened to kill Yitzhar's spokesman during a raid on the Od Yosef Hai yeshiva.
On Friday, January 28 a number of youngsters from Yitzhar clashed with IDF soldiers. During the incident, the settlers punctured the tires of an army vehicle, and one of the soldiers fired a warning shot in the air.
A few hours later, Border Guard officers arrived at the settlement and searched a number of caravans belonging to local yeshiva students. The officers also asked to see their identification cards. The youngsters argued with the officers while Yitzhar's spokesman, Avraham Binyamin, documented the incident.
Binyamin, who was not carrying an ID card, was asked to leave the premises. During the argument, he noticed that the rifle of one the officer's was loaded. When Binyamin asked the officer if there was a bullet in the barrel, the officer replied, "This bullet is for your forehead."
The threat can be heard on a videotape sent to Ynet by the settlers. "I politely asked the officer if his rifle was cocked. He replied, 'you don't have an ID card; I ask that you leave'," Binyamin recalled.
"I said, 'Just tell me if there is a bullet in the barrel'. The officer replied, 'This bullet will be for your forehead. Now get out of here'."
The Yesha Human Rights group filed a complaint with Israel Police's internal affairs unit. "The officer behaved like a common criminal," said Orit Struck, the group's director.
A spokesperson for the Border Guard said, "One of the fighters made a miserable and unacceptable remark, which we condemn. We will consider taking measures against him following an investigation."
