German foreign minister met with Ahmadinejad

Germany's government has confirmed that the foreign minister held a rare meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran during the release of two German journalists.

Guido Westerwelle discussed "human and civil rights" with the president late Saturday, the government said Sunday. It was first visit by a German foreign minister to Iran since before Ahmadinejad took power in 2005. (AP)
