Rivlin: Ashkenazi will be in Knesset, only a matter of when

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said there is no need to shorten the cooling-off period for military figures entering politics on a personal basis, but he did say he supports the idea that it won't apply to former IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. (res.) Gabi Ashkenazi.
"Ashkenazi will be in the Knesset, it's only a matter of when. He is young and he's a leader," said Rivlin and added, "It's not a good idea to make a rule specifically for one person. If you feel the way I feel that a three year cooling-off period is too long – we will pass this bill which will be implemented only in the next Knesset." (Roni Sofer)
