Merkel: Gaddafi speech frightening, eyes sanctions

German Chancellor Angela Merkel described Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's speech on Tuesday, in which he said he was determined to stay in power, as "very, very frightening" and said he had declared war on his own people.

Merkel told a news conference that if Gaddafi did not stop the violence she would support sanctions against Libya. (Reuters)
