Irish election: Exit poll shows Fine Gael leading

An exit poll in Ireland's national election shows the opposition Fine Gael party with a strong lead but apparently not enough to form a single party government. National broadcaster RTE said Saturday that its poll of 3,500 voters showed Fine Gael with 36 percent support. That is not thought to be enough to win a majority in the Dail, the lower house of Parliament.

Fine Gael's likely coalition partner, the Labour Party, had a bit more than 20 percent support, which would be its best result ever. Fianna Fail, which led the government as Ireland's economy collapsed, had 15 percent, its worst showing ever. (AP)
